RDL Exam

RDL is targeted at trained and experienced technicians who are active in the HVACR field. 

The RDL exams cover knowledge of:

  • Equipment installation 
  • Service 
  • Safety 
  • Types of refrigerants 
  • Tools 
  • Fabricating copper tubing 
  • Evacuation and charging 
  • Refrigerant circuit tools
  • Recovery and/or recycling machines

IMPORTANT

Technicians earning the RDL are safety and environmental stewards. Because of their superior knowledge in the safe handling of refrigerants, they protect building occupants and lower emissions of ozone depleting substances (ODS) and greenhouse gases (GHG).

HVACR Technicians Earn the Credential in One Day with Two Steps

Online exam of 100 multiple choice questions. Technicians will have up to 2.5 hours to complete the online exam.

In-person practical exam administered by a local proctor and remotely monitored by Air conditioning and Refrigeration European Association (AREA).

The practical exam will include three modules, which will take approximately (on average) 1.5 hours to complete. Candidates will rotate among the available testing stations so that simultaneous testing can take place. The modules will cover: 

  1. Brazing and tubing 
  2. Leak checking and parameter reading  
  3. Recovery-vacuum-charge

Technicians who pass both exams will receive:
  • An RDL Certificate
  • An RDL Wallet Card 
Technicians can present these documents to employers and clients.
